Founded by Robert Alexander Clarke and Cleo Davis, BAS is an Art and Architectural studio working toward a Black Aesthetic for Black Communities.
Our studio aims to un-earth new expressions and aesthetics in architecture that are derived from the Black American Experience.
Throughout the history of the world most cultures and peoples have developed their own aesthetics, and architectures that are specific to their traditions, histories and narratives. However this cultural phenomenon has not manifested its self in Black American communities, in terms of an recognizable architectural style. Our work speculates on how one can correct this cultural and artistic omission through architectural design.
